Srebrenica and communication

In 1995 I was just 8-years old when the Srebrenica massacre took place. Due to this fact I have to read books and newspapers afterwards to understand why and how this genocide took place. After the arrest of Ratko Mladic all newspapers and other media were stand-by to cover this historical moment and they consequently looked back to '95. This morning I read an article from Hans Blom in "De Volkskrant", he stated that the video of the separated refugees (with the presence of Dutchbat) in Potocari was one of the main reasons that people nowadays think that the genocide of 8000 people is a direct consequent of the failure of Dutchbat. The lack of video material from the Srebrenica forest is also a important element according to Blom.

According to Blom it's all about communication. When we ask the world to judge our role in the Srebrenica massacre we are stated as a bunch of cowards. One of the first  Let's take a look at Youtube to find out how come.

New Twitter Feature

Friedrich Nietzsche was 34-years old when he decided to switch his pen for a typewriter, a Writing Ball. He was forced to this move because of a physical impairment on his hands and his eyes. With the help of a typewriter he was able to write with his eyes closed. Interestingly, a friend of Nietzsche (Heinrich Kosilitz) noticed a change in his writing style. “You are right,” Nietzsche replied, “our writing equipment takes part in the forming of our thoughts.” Unfortunately after Nietzsche many many other people are using a typewriter to form their thoughts.

Collaboration T-Mobile,Twitter and the invisibles

Since 9/11 our privacy has been reduced for security reasons. Consequently companies can store all or internetdata 6 months till two year in order "to protect the country" . George Orwell has written the book 1984 about the feature of our privacy and the role of the government controlling our social lives with data. Nowadays Orwell can be falsified because of the fact that not only the government are taking our lives in to control but also big brands like TomTom, Facebook, Sony and T-Mobile are the owners of worlds most powerful data. In this blog I will explain the danger of this development by the use of a personal case including the specific role of T-mobile and Twitter.

Take a look on the Wild site

Today we celebrate the end of World War II in the Netherlands. We can live in relative freedom and can spread almost every word without being tortured or being arrested by the police. To regulate our society the government has set up laws about the way we can communicate with each other (Article 285 Wetboek van Strafrecht). This article is about the ban on death threats. But how must we interpret this law when we take a look at the Wild West on the Internet? Even on this memorial day bullets are flying.

Brands are buying news

As a football-fan I am always looking for updates and news of football. Websites like vi.nl and voetbalzone.nl are covering football news around the globe almost 24 hours a day. As mentioned before in a previous blog, the relevance and the reliability of the presented news are sometimes doubtful. Not only because the reliability of the news but also the source of the news can be controversial. Today I found a good  example of directed news on an official Ajax fan-website . So who is really making the news? Independent web-editors or powerful brands?

The ease of online media manipulation

Do you want to influence media and society? Read this log carefully.

First Step:
Choose a subject that's really hot at the moment. Especially online websites are searching the entire day for news on Twitter and Blogs. In fact they are too lazy to set up their own story, so they simple copy-paste our findings. Newsmedia have called this 'crowdsourcing', I am calling this saving money and reducing sweat.

//My case: Feyenoord football player Luigi Bruins formed the subject of my topic. Traditionally January is a transfer month and that's why online reporters are dedicated for transfer rumors. They do not like to disappoint their visitors, so all the rumors are welcome.

Me Myself the hypocrite

Communication Parrots
Setting up a weblog about business communication is the easiest thing to do for me. As a communication graduate it is not hard to find relevant articles and weblogs about this subject. Four years Bachelor nearly convinced me about the value of social media and the 'opportunities' this medium has to offer us.

The University told me to set up a blog and a twitter to publish about communication. Keeping in my mind that we all describing our own (feature)business i am expecting numerous of positive posts and tweets about communication and social mediablabla. One of the first lessons in marketing is: Be Remarkable. That's the main reason this weblog is set up in a "pickle-wise" way.

I hope to serve and enjoy you the next couple of months with anti-digital communication posts. Next topic will be about Evgeny Morozov (cyber-utopism).
