Take a look on the Wild site

Today we celebrate the end of World War II in the Netherlands. We can live in relative freedom and can spread almost every word without being tortured or being arrested by the police. To regulate our society the government has set up laws about the way we can communicate with each other (Article 285 Wetboek van Strafrecht). This article is about the ban on death threats. But how must we interpret this law when we take a look at the Wild West on the Internet? Even on this memorial day bullets are flying.

On 9 april 2011 a 24-year man killed seven innocent people in a shopping male in Alphen. The first reaction from professors specialized in this sort of crime is the awareness for copy-cat. The easiest way for police to monitor this is to have a look on social media websites. Off course they did so that day and in the following days after the shooting 5 people have been arrested for making similar threats on Twitter.

Statement has been made, consequently the society is happy and so is the government. But it is hypocrite to stop arresting people when media have left the building. Due to the fact that the Wild West on the internet is still remaining, the police have to remain their way to arrest people. @doodsbedreiging is one of my favorite twitter accounts to feel the heat of our society. This account has been made to point out the craziness of article 285. Everyday threats are made on Twitter and the police nor the government are taking action. Their official statement can be read here.

Today, the day of freedom,  the following threats are made:

One of the things that can be noticed is the relatively young age of the people. They might not know the impact of their online words. Nevertheless the words they use among friends in the real world are equally to the words they use online according to the law.  In theory all this people can be accused for threatening, in practice nearly nobody get arrested by the police. Our society is moving because of the internet while our politicians are ignoring these movements. According to this fact we might can conclude that there is a significant difference for them between online typed words and offline spoken words.
Can somebody tell me what's going on?
